Leisure bicycle maker Firefox today said it has tied-up with US-based eyewear major Tifosi Optics and plans to launch the American firm's range of sports sunglasses in the country, as it looks to expand its presence in the accessories segment.

The high-end bicycle maker said it has secured Tifosi's exclusive distributorship in the country and is aiming to sell at least 2,000 pieces of eyewear this year.

"We will be launching Tifosi's sunglass range through our exclusive retail outlets across the country. To begin with, we will have 17 models but our plan is to bring the entire range with passage of time," Firefox Bikes Head (Marketing) Ajit Gandhi told PTI.

He said the company will mainly focus on adventure riders and promote the range as quality cycling eyewear.

"We are already merchandising other cycling accessories like locks, jerseys, shorts and helmets from our partner Trek Bikes. With the new product, we will be strengthening our portfolio," Gandhi said.

The range of eyewear from Tifosi will be available in the Indian market with a price point of Rs 1,500-5,000. The range will come with interchangeable lens and special protective features like protection from ultra-violet rays and dust particles.

"Our aim is to sell at least 2,000 pieces during the first year. We will start with six of our company-owned outlets and then introduce the range in our franchise stores," Gandhi said.

Firefox Bikes has sold over 45,000 units of bicycles since 2005. It currently sells around 50 models in India.

During the Delhi Auto Expo in January, the company had launched the Rs 2.4-lakh adventure bike 'Trek Equinox TTX 9.8 SSL'.
