TeamLease Services, a staffing solutions company, has introduced a BPO-ITeS training programme for graduate and technical colleges. The company has initiated this to counter the manpower gap in the BPO-ITeS sector.

The initiative is being offered at select colleges in Bangalore and enables students to choose their career options with one of India's fastest growing industries.

According to Kavitha Reddy, assistant vice president, TeamLease Services, "Bangalore BPO-ITeS workforce estimated requirement stands at approximately 3,500 people per month. Currently, only 3-5 per cent of the people applying for BPO-ITeS jobs get selected and less than 30 per cent of the graduates consider the BPO-ITeS option. This has forced the industry to look at options to meet their workforce requirements. The training initiative will bridge the gap between the employable and trainable category, reducing the recruitment time and costs involved."

The programme focuses on training candidates in improving their vocabulary, enhancing their communication and soft skills, interview handling skills, neutralising the accent, career counseling among other skills. It is offered for a duration of 3-7 weeks.

The pilot project has been rolled out in Bangalore and will be taken to smaller towns like Mangalore and Mysore. The training will also include sessions by human resource managers from leading business process outsourcing companies and industry leaders.

According to the latest Nasscom report, the total demand for manpower in the BPO-ITeS sector was estimated to touch 11.20 lakh by 2009. At present, the selection ratio in this sector is about 3- 5 per cent.

TeamLease has over 120 clients including DataCraft, Rediff, IDBI, Progeon, Hughes, Transworks, Mindtree, Accenture, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, BASF, Thermax, Skyworks, ISRC, AVL India,Virtusa, Saint Gobain, SIFY and Bharati among others and operates across all major functional and industry verticals.
