The sudden exit of Pramath Sinha, MD and CEO of Ananda Bazaar Patrika (ABP) Group, in August has been followed by the departure of at least four more senior managers, who had joined the company during Sinha's tenure.

Dipankar Das Purkayastha has been officially named as the new CEO of Kolkata-headquartered ABP Group, replacing Sinha, who put in his papers after a stint of a little over a year.

The CEO did not respond to a questionnaire sent to him by email on the issue.

Purkayastha was the executive director and COO of the ABP Group and he has over the years headed the finance and IT portfolios in the group.

Among those who resigned in August were Vikas Gupta, chief marketing officer and president, advertising sales, and Asheesh Gupta, vice-president, corporate strategy & new ventures task force.

Another senior executive on her way out was Anuradha Das Mathur, CEO, BusinessWorld Intelligence, launched in June 2007.

Another senior level departure was Arpita Menon, national head of the 'Strategic Unit and Business Intelligence', who joined ABP in mid-January 2007.

Media analysts said, "At the end of the day, what matters to the readers is whether with the top-level change in management or editorial teams, the price of the product would go up or the quality of the product would alter. For a media house, what matters is the turn-around time from when employees resigned to the time it found suitable others to take responsibilities."
