Seth replaces Mekin Maheshwari, one of the earliest employees at Flipkart, who left the position in September last year to take up an advisory role in the company. "Nitin brings with him a unique mix of cross sectoral experience, deep understanding of business, entrepreneurial DNA and a long track record of building and nurturing winning teams," said Binny Bansal, CEO of Flipkart, in a statement.
At Fidelity, Seth was responsible for offshore operations across India and Tunisia, leading over 2,600 professionals in total. Prior to his stint at he worked with McKinsey where he was the director of McKC, the company's knowledge centre in India.
Seth's appointment at Flipkart comes at a time when there's a massive churn in the top management. Following the January restructuring that saw co-founder Sachin Bansal step down as CEO after eight years was followed by the departure of Mukesh Bansal who headed the commerce and advertising businesses and Ankit Nagori, the chief business officer at Flipkart.
Flipkart is still on the lookout for someone to head its logistics arm, in which it plans to invest Rs 5,000 crore over the next few years and is opening it up to third party online and offline players. It is also actively looking for someone to fill the position of Nagori who quit to start his own venture that will be backed by the Flipkart founders.
An MBA holder from the Indian Institute of Management in Lucknow, Seth too got a taste of the world of entrepreneurship back in 2000 when he started ActiveKarma Ventures, a health and lifestyle solutions company. He also chairs the NASSCOM regional council for Haryana and helped create the IT policy of for the state.
