Three days after country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki launched its compact sports utility vehicle Vitara Brezza for Rs 6.99 lakh, American car maker Ford has cut prices of EcoSport by up to Rs 1,12,300. The price cut has been announced on both diesel and petrol variants.

Ford said it wants to enhance its value for money proposition. The entry level EcoSport (petrol) is now available for Rs 6,68,800 (ex showroom, Delhi), down by a steep Rs 53,700 against the earlier price. The top end diesel variant price has been trimmed by over 10% or Rs 112,300 to Rs 9,75,000.

“With enhanced value for money proposition, we are extending its appeal across segments, including Rs 6–8 Lakh price band, which has been growing at 40% since 2013,” said Anurag Mehrotra, executive director (marketing, sales and service) at Ford India.

Maruti has launched the Brezza only with a diesel engine for now and has used the same 1.3 litre engine, which is also seen in the Swift and Dzire.

The engine is claimed to return a mileage of 24.3 kmpl. But, a petrol engine could be added later depending on demand, company officials said. The EcoSport, Creta and Duster are the only models in this class of sub-Rs 10 lakh that offer petrol engines.
