Passenger carmaker Ford India is planning to delay its capacity expansion plans to reach 200,000 vehicles at its Chennai plant by 2010, due to the global slowdown in demand for automobiles, a top company official said today.
The Indian subsidiary of the US-based auto maker is, however, sticking to its investment commitment of $500 million in Chennai plant, particularly for manufacturing a new small car, and also setting up an engine facility to produce petrol and diesel engines for domestic and export markets.
Earlier, while talking to reporters, Tucker said Ford plans to roll out its planned small car by “end-2009 or early 2010,” sticking to its announced schedule.
