Former BlackBerry India MD Sunil Dutt joins Reliance Jio

Likely to work on developing the company's own-branded handset in future

Sunil Dutt, the former managing director of BlackBerry in India, has joined Reliance Jio Infocomm as head of its devices segment. Dutt, who quit BlackBerry in March 2013, was working as an independent consultant before joining the Mukesh Ambani firm. Dutta confirmed the development.

A spokesperson at Reliance Jio did not want to comment on the development. However, Dutt declined to give further details. Besides looking leading the launch of the third-party devices for the fourth generation (4G) services of Reliance Jio, Dutt is likely to work on developing the company's own-branded handset in future. However, the handsets are likely to be manufactured from third party.

Like other key officials of Reliance Jio, Dutt will be based in Mumbai.Before his stintat BlackBerry India, Dutt worked as the president (personal systems group) at Hewlett - Packard India. Dutt hadalso worked as the country head for Samsung's mobile business and had worked with Nokia as sales head prior to his stint at Samsung.
