Former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Defiance Technologies, Subbu D Subramanian has joined Cognizant.

While Cognizant refused to comment, Subramanian confirmed that he has joined Cognizant as a strategic consultant, in an advisory role specific to manufacturing. He will be based in Chennai.

Subramanian joined Ashok Leyland's IT and Engineering Services entity - Defiance Technologies - in 2009 after quitting the erstwhile Satyam Computer Services (now Tech Mahindra) as its vice president for the manufacturing and automotive vertical.

Considered to be one of the industry veterans with over 25 years of experience in the IT services industry, Subramanian was formerly associated with Tata Consultancy services and Ernst & Young. He joined Defiance to expand the company’s scope of operations beyond engineering to technology-enabled manufacturing and enterprise solutions.

The NASDAQ-listed Cognizant operates under three segments – Financial, Healthcare and Manufacturing/Retail/Logistics. During the September quarter Manufacturing/Retail/Logistics vertical accounted for 21.3% of the total revenue, which stood at $2.31 billion. The vertical grew at 23.7% year-on-year and it was the second fastest growing segment after health care, which grew at 24.2%.
