The country’s second-largest telecom player Vodafone on Thursday launched Rs 5 a day scheme offering free incoming calls, cheaper outgoing calls and SMS rates during national roaming. Vodafone will charge 1.5 paise a second for outgoing call under this daily plan.
Cross-holding norms
Expressing concern about the proposed cross-holding norms for telecom companies, Vodafone has written to Communications and Information technology Minister Kapil Sibal saying the new regulation would be a “disadvantage” for the company in India. Vodafone Plc, majority stakeholder in Vodafone India, holds a 4.4 per cent stake in Bharti Airtel. The company also noted that formulation of this rule differed from the earlier proposal of the department of telecommunications committee on unified licensing.
