FreeCharge, a mobile transactions platform, on Friday announced it had raised $80 million in Series-C funding. As part of this round, new investors Valiant Capital Management & Tybourne Capital Management came on board. The round also saw participation from existing investors, Sequoia Capital, RuNet and Sofina.
Grabhouse.com raises $2.5 mn
Grabhouse.com, a community-based online exchange for finding rented accommodation, has raised $2.5 million (around Rs 15 crore) in Series-A funding from Kalaari Capital and Sequoia Capital, the company said. The funds would be used to develop new products, improve existing technology and to increase the website's footprint in the country.
Fidelity invests in Greenlight
Fidelity Growth Partners India led a $10-million financing in Greenlight Planet, a US-based company that distributes solar energy products for off-grid homes in emerging markets. Founded in 2007, Greenlight Planet focuses on delivering affordable energy to the world's 1.2 billion off-grid consumers.
Mahindra Group buys Babyoye
Mahindra Group has acquired Mumbai-based start-up Nest Childcare Services, which runs an e-commerce site for baby products under Babyoye.com. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Babyoye was founded in 2010 by Sanjay Nadkarni and Arunima Singhdeo. It had raised $12-million venture capital funding from existing shareholders Tiger Global, Accel Partners and Helion Venture Partners.
FirstCry raises $26 million
Pune-based BrainBees Solution, which runs hybrid online-offline baby and kids retailer FirstCry.com, has raised $26 million in Series-D round of funding led by San Francisco-based hedge fund Valiant Capital Partners. Existing investors IDG Ventures India, Vertex and SAIF Partners, also participated in the round.
