In a second worldwide recall announced within a span of two weeks, Mattel Toys is recalling 18.6 million made-in-China products around the world. In India, the recall will have a minimal effect, with about 2,000 pieces sold since September 2006 being recalled. |
In the second round, US-based Mattel has recalled 18.2 million Barbie, Polly Pocket and Batman toys with magnets from its markets around the world. According to Mattel's ongoing research, magnets liberated from these toys, may be harmful to kids. Although till now no injury caused to any customer has been found by them. The company is voluntarily recalling toys to ensure safety standards for kids, according to the company press release. |
Mattel said on August 2, it was recalling 1.5 million Fisher- Price pre-school products, including Chinese-made Sesame Street and Dora the Explorer toys, because they may contain excessive levels of lead. About 65 per cent of Mattel's toys are made in China. |
Most of the toys recalled were plastic pre-school toys, including replicas of popular children's television characters such as the Cookie Monster, Elmo, Dora and Big Bird. |
