Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd (GACL), a leading caustic soda manufacturer in India, has reported a lower net profit of Rs 20.12 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2010 as against Rs 28.99 crore in the corresponding period last fiscal.
However, the company achieved Rs 351.61 crore net sales the second quarter of the current fiscal as compared to Rs 333.90 crore in the same period last financial year. "Lower profit is mainly due to market conditions and impact of erosion in price realisations for caustic soda, caustic potash and phosphoric acid group products in particular and general increase in input costs," said Guruprasad Mohapatra, managing director, GACL.
