Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals today said it would set up a 100 MW gas-based power plant at Dahej in collaboration with Gujarat State Petroleum Corp.
The project, which is expected to be completed in three years, would have an estimate cost of more than Rs 400 crore, GACL Managing Director Guruprasad Mohapatra said.
GACL would be the first state government undertaking to tap natural resources and to be generating power to an extent of about 63 MW with this project, Mohapatra said. It would reduce dependence on the grid and help save power costs.
GSPC, which would supply gas to the project, has found huge quantities of gas in Godavari basin in southern India.
Besides, GACL is looking to fulfill its ever-increasing power demands by opting for alternative energy sources, for which it had set up a 23.75 MW windmill power generation plant at Moti Sindhodi in Kutch, Mohapatra said.
The company has also set up additional windmills with a capacity of about 40 MW at the same location, which would be commissioned by the end of this year, he said.
