Gail plans telecom services via Project Triveni

Gail India is planning to enter the Rs 80,000 crore telecom market by acquiring a licence for national long distance (NLD) operations.

According to a release issued by Gail India to the BSE today, Gail India will launch Project Triveni in association with Power Grid and RailTel  to create the second biggest optic fibre network with a reach of 60,000 km across the length and width of the country.

"The licence would enable the company to provide virtual private network (VPN) service to the entire corporate sector, and, particularly, 500 business houses who are already buying natural gas and are well connected with optical fibre cables (OFC) network," the release added.
