Keeping in view the severe power shortage in Andhra Pradesh, public sector natural gas operator Gail Limited has agreed to supply 2.5 mmscmd (million metric standard cubic metre per day) of regasified liquified natural gas (RLNG) to the state, according to the chief minister's office.
BC Tripathi, chairman and managing director of Gail on Mondayl met chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in the light of the ongoing power crisis, which is partly arising out of the natural gas shortage to the state's power sector. It may be recalled that over 60 per cent of the installed capacity of the existing gas power projects have been kept idle due to the huge shortfall in natural gas supplies from Reliance-operated K-G D6 fields.
The chief minister's office said that Gail had come forward to supply RLNG to help increase the generation by 500 Mw in the gas power stations. The chief minister has asked the energy department to take a follow-up action with regard to the RLNG supply, the release said.
