Stating that the port is constantly sharing all export related data including names of exporters, year-wise exports, destination wise exports, quantity of iron ore fines exported along with FOB (free on board) value of exported quantity, the port officials have requested the state government to lift restriction on exports.

In its latest communication to the state steel & mines department, the Hyderabad-based deep sea port has furnished monthly statement on export of iron ore fines.

“Gangavaram Port has the best systems and procedures for for cargo accounting for iron ore as well as other commodities handled by the port. The detailed processes have also been explained and process flow submitted to personnel from CSM Technologies who were nominated by the Orissa government to visit Gangavaram port on January 5-6 this year and study the port and its facilities for export of iron ore fines,” Sanjay Gupta, director (commercial), Gangavaram Port Ltd said in a letter to Manoj Ahuja, the state steel & mines secretary.

“All required data has been provided by the port. You are requested to advise the concerned to remove any restrictions that have been unintentionally imposed for movement of iron ore fines from Orissa to Gangavaram port. Our customers have represented for this matter to be taken up on priority with your good office as they have cargo export commitments through the port and would suffer huge financial losses if the movement of iron ore fines from Orissa,” the letter added.

The state was yet to lift suspension on mineral ore exports from Gangavaram and Kakinada ports, the two private ports with operating bases in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

The state government had announced a freeze on ore exports from these two ports two months back as they did not share any information on exports.

Except the Paradip Port, none of the other ports were sharing information on ore exports. Nearly 25 million tonnes of iron ore were shipped from Orissa in 2011-12 as against the pan-India export figure of 97 million tonnes.

Peeved over the irregularity in submission of information on ore exports by some of the ports, the Orissa government had sought the intervention of the Centre to ensure that the details of ores received at different ports are supplied to the state director of mines.
