The US-based Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, promoted by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife, will expand the scope of its philanthropic activities in India.
Bill Gates, co-chairperson of the foundation, said the engagement would include the entire gamut of drug research and delivery through partnerships with research organisations and domestic pharmaceutical companies.
Addressing a media briefing here on Thursday, Gates said the foundation would be extended beyond prevention and treatment of neglected diseases to nutrition, mother and child health and agriculture.
“We intend to do more scientific partnerships. India will be a source of basic drug research and low cost production of vaccines and drugs,” he said.
