Infrastructure firm Gayatri Projects today said it has inked a fuel supply pact with Coal India for a period of 20 years.

"Gayatri Projects Ltd is pleased to announce that its subsidiary TPCIL (Thermal Powertech Corp India Ltd) has inked FSA (Fuel Supply Agreement) with MCL (Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd), a subsidiary of Coal India for a period of 20 years," the company said in a statement.

Under the FSA signed for annual contracted capacity of 2.13 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), MCL would supply coal for 20 years, starting from operationalisation of the plant which is likely in the next fiscal, the statement added.

Commenting on the development, Gayatri Projects Managing Director T V Sandeep Reddy said, "This development would help us in supplying competitive power to consumers and overcoming the severe power deficit to an extent in the Southern region and other parts of India."

TPCIL is in the process of setting up a 1,320 MW coal-fired generation plant in Andhra Pradesh. The plant has been designed to run on 70% domestic coal and 30% imported coal. The imported coal requirement will be met through TPCIL's coal supply pact with PT Bayan Resources, the company said.

Recently, the Coal Ministry had informed the PMO that 69 power plants are yet to enter into a fuel supply pact with Coal India Ltd.
