Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), marketing its products under the brand Amul, will hike milk prices for the second time this year by Re 1 per litre in the city from tomorrow, a senior federation official said today.

Milk prices in New Delhi and other parts of Gujarat are expected to be increased within a week's time, he said.

"A decision to hike milk prices by Re 1 per litre in Ahmedabad from September 1, 2009 has been taken, while the price hike in New Delhi and other districts of Gujarat is likely to come into effect from next week," GCMMF Chief General Manager R S Sodhi told PTI. Following the hike, the price of Amul Gold in Ahmedabad will be Rs 26 per litre, Shakti Rs 24 per litre, Taaza Rs 22 per litre, Slim & Trim Rs 20 per litre, Tea Special Rs 24 per litre, and Cow's Milk Rs 23 per litre.

"In the wake of rising cost of cattle feed we have also urged the Central government to reduce excise duty and VAT on molasses, a key ingredient of cattle feed," he said. Prior to this, GCMMF had hiked milk prices in two phases- by Re 1 per litre in the month of May and June this year.
