The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited (GE Shipping) has placed an order for three new Kamsarmax dry bulk carriers with Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group.
The ships will be built at Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding Co Limited's shipyard in China. The contracted ships, of about 82,000 deadweight tonnage (dwt), will be built according to the new eco-design features which will result in greater fuel efficiency and be in compliance with energy efficiency index requirements.
The three vessels are expected to join the company’s fleet in the second and third quarter of the 2016 calendar, GE Shipping said in a filing to the BSE on Tuesday.
At present, the company’s fleet stands at 30 vessels, comprising 22 tankers (eight crude carriers, 13 product tankers and one LPG carrier) and eight bulk carriers (one capesize, three Kamsarmax and 4 Supermax) with an average age of 9 years aggregating 2.42 million dwt.
