General Motors India sees sales picking up in festive season

"The industry is expected to grow by 6-8% and we will also have the same growth"

General Motors India today said it is expecting sales to pick up during the festival season after flat sales over the past eight months.

"We are expecting an incremental growth of five to ten per cent during the festive season," General Motors Vice- President (Corporate Affairs) P Balendran told reporters.

Speaking on the sidelines of annual convention of Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) here, he said that the company is aiming for a growth rate at par with the industry.

"The industry is expected to grow by six to eight per cent and we will also have the same growth. As of now from January to August our sales have remained flat," he added.

In August the company's sales stood at just 7,510 units, down 17 per cent from the same month last year.

In order to cash in on the festive season that lasts till New Year, the company is also planning to launch hatchback and sedan versions of Sail in the coming months.

"We will launch the new versions of hatchback and sedan versions of 'Sail' by the end of October and it will be in both petrol and diesel variants," Balendran said.

The company will also launch its multi purpose vehicle (MPV) 'Enjoy' by the end of this year.

General Motors India had sold 1,11,570 units in 2011.
