General Motors India, the local subsidiary of the US auto giant, today unveiled Essentia, a compact sedan to be launched in 2017.

The Essentia will compete against sub-four metre sedans like Tata Zest, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent. 

The five-door, five-seater car will be made at the company’s Talegaon plant based in Maharashtra.

The US company which sells under the Chevrolet brand also showcased the Activ a concept based on the Beat model. The company will gauge response from the visitors for this model, which it calls as a soft roader.

GM India will also launch Spin, a multi purpose vehicle in due course.
