Genpact, formerly GE Capital International Services, is targeting to hire 300 students in the coming academic year, via the associate training programme it has launched with Osmania University, Hyderabad.

The global provider of business and technology services hired 70 students through the pilot programme launched in the ongoing academic year.

The programme, based on the 'Learn-while-you-earn' concept, allows students to work and earn a Bachelor of Commerce (with Computers) degree at the same time. Students spend two days of the week on campus and three days at Genpact. They are paid three-fifth of the salary that a regular entry-level employee at Genpact would get. The course costs Rs 60,000 for three years.

Addressing the media, Ashok Tyagi, senior vice-president, Genpact, said, "We are exploring opportunities for similar tie-ups with two universities in the North. By 2007, we intend to recruit 10 per cent of our employees through such programmes."

Genpact, that has operations in Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Bangalore and Kolkata employs around 15,000 people in India out of around 19,000 globally. "We plan to increase our strength in India to more than 20,000 by the end of this year," Tyagi said.
