German expertise in the field of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) would be available soon to budding entrepreneurs in Uttar Pradesh.

The MSME chamber of the Indian Industries Association (IIA) will organise a series of Entrepreneur Development Programmes (EDPs) all over Uttar Pradesh in association with the German ministry of economic co-operation and development.

The partnership programme is being implemented jointly by ZDH (German Confederation of Skilled Craft) and SEQUA – a non-profit subidiary of Germany’s top business associations.

The state has a large MSME base, estimated at 1.2 million both in the organised and unorganised sectors.

The EDPs would be product-based, for example in Moradabad, it would focus on brassware industry. “We would organise 10-12 EDPs starting from September,” IIA president Anil Gupta told Business Standard.

The partnership programme in later stages would explore formation of an Indo-German SME network for mutual business gain.

A planning workshop for the first phase, 2010-13, of the ZDH/SEQUA Partnership Program in North, West and Central India was organised here.

Plan for skill development in the MSME sector was drawn. The ZDH managing director is also likely to visit Lucknow next year for knowledge sharing.

Juergen Henkel, project director, SEQUA gGmbH, Bonn, Germany, said the project goal was to ensure that Indian partners were able to provide all necessary services to its members in a sustainable manner.

IIA would empanel specialists and research consultants in different subjects to facilitate information needs of entrepreneurs and also hold training sessions for its central executive committee members.

The German programme has tied up with several Indian MSME chambers for improving services of the partner organisations in India, strengthen management and expand networking.

Germany has a large MSME base, accounting for 90 per cent of its industry. Besides, it is mandatory for the German MSME units to be members of an industry association.
