Germany's Schmersal sets up manufacturing plant in Pune

Manufacturer of electrical and electronic safety switchgear & systems Schmersal India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Germany's Schmersal Group, has set up its first manufacturing plant in India at Ranjangaon MIDC near Pune. It has invested over Rs 53 crore for this facility. The plant will be fully operational by April 2013.

Speaking on this, Philip Schmersal, CEO, Schmersal Group said, "India is an important and strategic market for Schmersal and this facility has been envisaged keeping in view the tremendous potential within the country. We will serve our products for the local industries and we follow this trend globally. In India, there is a need to create awareness about the safety of human lives. We have been encouraged by a growing Indian economy and the combination of availability of qualified engineers and designing capabilities which give India a distinct competitive advantage. Further, Indian manufactured products are gaining acceptance in world markets.”

 

Schmersal will manufacture electromechanical safety devices, electronic sensors and lift switchgear. The products that will be manufactured are currently targeted at serving the local markets and find application in machinery manufacturers selling to food, pharmaceutical and FMCG industry, material handling OEMs, textile industry, alternate energy sectors and manufacturers of automobiles and auto ancillary industries.

This plant will be the sixth from the group which has its manufacturing facilities at Wuppertal, Wettenberg and Muhldorf in Germany, Boituva in Brazil and Shangai in China. About 20,000 product references are manufactured by the company globally.
