City-based Ghari group of companies, know for its detergent and footwear, is planning to expand in the wind energy sector. The group has already set up two power plants of 6 Mw and 10 Mw in Karnataka and Gujarat.

“There is huge potential for power generation from wind energy as it is safe for the environment and cheaper for consumers,” said group spokesperson Inish Roy.

The annual growth rate of energy generation from renewable sources is just 25 per cent in India, as compared with 127 per cent in China followed by 57 per cent in France and 45 percent in the US.

India stands fourth in power generation from wind energy in the world. Around 12,403 Mw of power produced in the country is from renewable sources, of which 70 per cent is wind generated.

The company is also planning to come out with a public issue to fund the projects.

Meanwhile, the Information Technology Park being developed by the group’s construction division in Noida has been completed, he said.
