Girish Pradhan takes over as CERC chairman

Pradhan's term to last till December 28, 2017

Girish Pradhan, a retired IAS officer of the 1977 batch, on Tuesday, took over the chairman of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). His tenure would be up to December 28, 2017.
 
The post was lying vacant after the incumbent Pramod Deo's term completed on June 9.
 
Pradhan, after assuming charge, told Business Standard: “In the past few months, the confidence in the power sector has returned. There is no need for pessimism in the power sector. As a regulator, a fine balance needs to be struck and all stake holders need to be taken together.”
 
Pradhan, who belonged to Maharashtra cadre, retired on December 31, 2012 as secretary, ministry of new and renewable energy on December 31, 2012. Earlier, he assumed the posts of joint secretary, additional secretary and special secretary in the ministry of power during 2003 & 2011.
