Global faculty in fray for IIM-A director's post

Applications from round the world are pouring in for the director’s post at the country’s premier management institute, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A ).

A M Naik, chairperson of the board of governors at IIM-A told Business Standard: “The selection process will take another three-four weeks, since applications are still coming in from round the world. We are yet to shortlist the names." So far, the institute has received 60 applications.

Institute sources said IIM-A is searching for a new director with a strong international experience to enhance its image globally. The tenure of the current director, Samir Barua, ends in October. He had assumed office in 2007.

According to the institute sources, some of the contenders for the post are Rakesh Basant, Ajay Pandey, Arvind Sahay, T T Rammohan, Ravindra Dholakia, Srikant M Datar and G Raghuram.

A search committee, led by Naik and comprising Hasit Joshipura of GSK Pharma, Sanjay Lalbhai-CMD Arvind Group, Rama Bijapurkar and Ashank Desai of Mastek, has been formed to shortlist potential successors. Based on its recommendations, the BoG will send the names to the ministry of human resources development.
