Global health city to go on stream in 2010

Hyderabad-based Global Hospital Group has said its proposed health city in Chennai would become operational by 2010. The 46-acre hospital site will be completed in a phased manner with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore.

Addressing the media here on Tuesday, K Ravindranath, chairman of Global Hospital, said the group would invest Rs 500 crore in the project while the remaining would coming from its partners who would set up hotels, service and residential apartments in the proposed health city.The heath city is expected to create jobs for 5,000 people.

Global had acquired Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Hospital (formerly Tamilnad Hospital) in an-all cash deal for Rs 257 crore last year and planned to transfrom it into a ‘Health City’.

 

“We will ramp up the bed size of the Chennai facility to 1,000 from the present 500 by 2010. The project will have medical research facilities, service apartments, multi-organ transplant institute, heart and lung institute and other specialities, besides a 150-bed capacity for international patients,” he said.
