General Motors India (GM) which launched its latest offering the Chevrolet Sail sedan in the Gujarat market today, expects to clock over 40 per cent growth in Gujarat in 2013.
P Balendra, vice president, corporate affairs, GM India said, "We sold around 8500 cars in Gujarat last year, this was led by the Beat hatchback. This year we plan to sell 12000 units in the state. We are expecting the market to pick up during the second quarter." Gujarat at present contributes to around 7.8 per cent of the company's net sales, Balendran said. "In Gujarat, the infrastructure growth will drive consumer growth," said Lowell C Paddock, president and MD, GM India, adding that the company expected Gujarat sales growth to be higher than national average.
