General Motors India expects work to resume at its Halol (near Baroda) factory from tomorrow. The 900-odd workers had gone on strike on Friday, demanding higher wages.
P Balendran, director and vice-president, corporate affairs, said: “We expect work to resume from Monday. Discussions with labour representatives have gone well and the issue appears to be resolved.”
He maintained there was no labour union at the plant and therefore, no official communication from the workers’ side. State labour department officials had intervened and met both sides yesterday.
GM currently operates two shifts (150 units per day) and produces the premium hatchback Aveo UVA, the entry-level Aveo sedan, the mid-size Optra sedan, the Cruze sedan and the multi-utility Tavera at Halol.
