GM India's sales up 64% in May

General Motors India (GMI) today reported 64% jump in sales during May at 2503 units as against 1527 units in the corresponding month the previous year.

The sales grew mainly on account of surging demand for the multi-utility vehicle 'tavera', which sold 1610 units in may taking its tally to a total of 16,659 units since its launch in mid-2004, a company statement said today.

GMI's other model Chevrolet Optra sold 615 units in May while Opel Corsa sold 274 units and SUV Forrester sold four units.

So far in this year from January to May, GMI has sold an overall of 13,114 units, registering 57.64% increase as compared 8319 units in the corresponding period last year, it said.

During the period from January to May the company has sold 8242 units of Tavera, 3234 units of optras, 1617 units of Corsas and 21 units of Forrester, it said.
