Chandigarh, having the highest per capita income among the Union Territories and states, has become an important market for automobile rollouts. |
This time it was General Motors, with its launch of the Chevrolet SRV (Sports Recreational Vehicle). |
A company executive told Business Standard Chandigarh was the fastest-growing market after the National Capital Region. He said the new vehicle was in the price range Rs 6.97-7.51 lakh. |
The company has adopted a marketing strategy to promote the vehicle through the website www.srvchillzone.com. |
"The profile of the SRV vehicle is unique and tapping the net users would be key part of the marketing strategy. It is a niche market product and young executives from the corporate sector are the potential buyers of the new vehicle," an official said. |
He said the Chevrolet brand was growing at 44% in India. "We sold 30,000 units last year and plan to sell about 50,000 vehicles this year", he added. |
The Punjab market contributes about 12% of the total sales of the Chevrolet in India. "Punjab is a market for diesel vehicles but the Aveo, which was launched in the beginning of the year and is a petrol car, has been doing well," he said. |
He said India was the fourth-largest market for the Chevrolet in Asia after Japan, South Korea and China but was the fastest-growing market. |
