G M Remedies has launched water purifying tablets, Aquasafe, for the Punjab market. Launched by Mayor of Ludhiana Nahar Singh Gill, these tablets have been priced at Rs 2 each.

One tablet, the company claims, can purify 10 litres of water in 10 minutes. Though the company launched this tablet in the market three years ago, it formally introduced it in Punjab this year only.

The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation is considering using these tablets for purifying water in the city. Speaking to Business Standard, Bhagwan Singh of G M Remedies said that every year during monsoon, a number of people living in slums and other parts of the city suffer from diseases like diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid and cholera.

"These diseases are caused by the consumption of contaminated water. One Aquasafe tablet can purify 10 litres of water and make it germ free. These tablets will be beneficial for travellers who, instead of lugging cans of mineral water, can carry a pack of thirty Aquasafe tablets priced at Rs 60. One litre bottle of mineral water costs between Rs 10 and Rs 15. So besides being handy these tablets will also be economical," he said.

"We will distribute these tablets in slums so that people living there can drink germ-free water," said Mayor of Ludhiana Nahar Singh Gill.

Senior Deputy Mayor Prem Mittal and over 20 councillors from various political parties were also present on the occasion.
