General Motors today came out in support of Tata Motors for its Rs 1 lakh car project at Singur in West Bengal, terming the stalemate due to violent protests as 'unfortunate.'
"It's unfortunate. It feels bad," General Motors Corp President Fritz Henderson told PTI.
Asked if the ongoing impasse has adversely affected the company's investment plans in India, Henderson said, "Not at all. Our experience been good in Gujarat, Talegaon and Bangalore. Our investment plans remain intact."
Last week, General Motors announced plans to invest $200 million for setting up a power-train facility including components like engine, transmission and drive shaft at Talegaon in Maharashtra.
This investment is in addition to the $300 million it has already invested for making cars in the state.
General Motors has a production facility at Halol in Gujarat where it has invested Rs 1,400 crore. The facility can make 85,000 cars in a year.
