General Motors' multi-utility vehicle Travera, yet to hit Indian roads, will have Madhya Pradesh-made heart and transmission system.

The Indian arm of the US-based General Motors Corporation has decided to outsource engines and transmissions from the Pithampur (Indore) unit of Hindustan Motors for Travera. The vehicle will be assembled in Gujarat.

General Motors, according to sources, has planned to launch the vehicle next year. Powered by a 1.6-litre diesel engine, the car will cost Rs 6-7 lakh.

"The company (Hindustan Motors) will manufacture Travera's engines and transmission systems at its Pithampur plant in Madhya Pradesh," a source said.

Supplies to General Motors were likely to start in January, sources said.
