GMR, Apollo tie-up for Hyd airport medical centre

GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Infrastructure, has selected Apollo Hospitals for setting up a medical centre inside the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) at the new Hyderabad international airport at Shamshabad, Hyderabad.

According to an official release issued by GMR Infrastructure to the BSE today, as per the agreement, Apollo Hospitals will set up a medical centre spread over an area of over 300 sq mts in Level B of the PTB and first aid kiosks in the passenger restricted areas. It will provide permanent staffing and dedicated paramedics in this centre. It will be a 17-bed medical centre, having facilities such as Ultrasound/ECG and 24-hour emergency dental services.

Apollo Hospitals was selected from among several hospitals through a highly transparent and competitive bidding process.

The medical centre will serve as an emergency treatment centre for passengers who may develop medical complications while on travel or in the airport premises. It will also serve as important partner in disaster management within the airport premises during crisis times such as explosions, fires, earthquakes, plane crashes, etc.

In addition to passengers, the centre will provide medicare to airlines and airport staff working in the airport, and will also act as a centre for conducting pre-flight medical tests for pilots and flight crew.

The agreement also envisages Apollo Medical Centre to own and operate a minimum of four advanced life saving ambulances - two stationed at airside and two others on landside, besides maintaining, operating and providing advanced life saving equipment for ambulances of GHIAL.
