Google launches indoor maps in India

75 locations across India accessible on the app as of now

Internet search giant Google today launched Indoor Google Maps in India, which would enable users to access detailed floor plans indoor venues in India. The company has as of now added details of 75 popular locations in the country across 22 cities.

The locations added to Indoor Google Maps as of now mostly include shopping malls and some business parks in metros and some smaller cities like Jaipur, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Kochi, Noida, Gurgaon, Goa, Dehradun, Chandigarh, and Bhopal among others.

"Indoor Google Maps are like having an indoor directory in the palm of your hand," Google said in a statement. "Detailed floor plans will automatically appear when you're using the Google Maps app on iOS and Android, and zoomed in on a building where indoor map data is available. Simply zoom out and the indoor Google Maps will fade away."

 

The service is already available in some countries like US, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Netherlands. Globally, the service is used for navigation through airports, shopping malls, large retail stores, and transit stations.

Google has also invited Indian business owners to get their location's floor plan included on Indoor Google Maps.
