The Bhubaneswar chapter of the Google Business Group (GBG) has tied up with online taxi aggregators Uber for fostering the start-up ecosystem in the state.

GBG is a community which comprises of business professionals sharing knowledge about Google web technologies for business success.

It is voluntarily run by business professionals who are passionate about bringing the benefits of the web to their local business communities.

The local community guides aspiring entrepreneurs about sourcing of funds, getting mentors on board, organizing events and workshops to create a start-up culture.

"The success story of Uber stands as an awesome learning for people who want to build their own company and make a difference. The story would be shared with the students of engineering and MBA graduates. This is for the first time GBG Bhubaneswar has tied up with Uber for building a long lasting vibrant community in Odisha for building the ecosystem together", said Ananda Mishra, programme manager, GBG Bhubaneswar.

"We have tied up with GBG Bhubaneswar to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship in Bhubaneswar. Uber has rapidly expanded to over 330 markets in 5 years, but we still retain an entrepreneurial culture and DNA in our cities. Every Uber city starts off with just 2 to 3 people (sometimes even less than that) and operates like an independent start-up within the parent organization. Every city where Uber launches its operation goes through a phase of rapid growth with a very lean team. There are a lot of lessons to be learnt in an environment like this. The GBG alliance gives Uber a platform to interact with aspiring entrepreneurs in the city and relay the Uber story", said Varun Mundkur, Senior Launcher, Uber on the tie up.

GBG, Bhubaneswar, launched in 2013, has over 7,000 members. It may be noted that in 2014, GBG Bhubaneswar was awarded third best Google Start-up Community in the world and has nurtured a strong team of 100 committed citizens and students start-up evangelists in Bhubaneswar.

The local chapter will be organizing a Start-up Weekend for the first time in Bhubaneswar starting on August 14, Mishra added.

Start-up Weekends are 54-hour events where developers, designers, marketers, product managers and start-up enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch start-ups. Startup Weekend is a US based not-for-profit organization, with a global network of passionate leaders and entrepreneurs on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower individuals, teams and communities.
