Goose Technologies, a Hyderabad-based provider of pharma industry-focused business re-engineering software products and solutions, today launched ‘Goose Tracker’, its new-generation online and offline 2D serialisation bar coding solution, for the drug industry.
“Goose Tracker is a simple and easy-to-configure track and trace solution for achieving bar coding on drug packaging as per the recent Directorate of Foreign Trade (DGFT) regulation,” Deb Pattnaik, founder and chief executive of Goose, said in a release on Monday.
The solution creates, manages and tracks unique serial numbers printed on the tertiary, primary and secondary packages. The company expects a rise in demand and surge in Goose Tracker customer portfolio as pharmaceutical companies get set to implement secondary bar coding, which is now compulsory for pharmaceutical exports from January 1, 2013.
According to reports, the growing global problem of counterfeit drugs poses a big risk to healthcare systems in developing countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that counterfeit drug prevalence rates fall between 10 per cent and 30 per cent in the developing world, as compared to one per cent or less in industrialised nations.
India exports over $12 billion of its generic drugs annually to more than 180 countries. Goose Tracker is designed to enable pharma exporters complement their bar coding initiative to become reliable exporter of quality pharmaceutical products in the international market and strengthen their fight against counterfeiting, the company said.
“Goose Tracker integrates with existing applications to securely meet data management and printing needs for packaging and shipping labels. We are working with several governments and non-government entities to include changes as and when they are announced,” Pattnaik added.
