Govt allows telcos to erect towers on defence land

The Cabinet today gave its approval to issue policy guidelines for allotment of defence land to public sector and infrastructure providers licensed by the Telecom Ministry to lay optical fibre cables, construct shared mobile towers on defence land at military stations and cantonments, Information & Broadcasting Minister P R Das Munshi said.      

 

This decision will help in improving the quality of communication services in cantonment and military stations.

Earlier, mobile service providers were restricted from erecting  mobile towers and laying cables on defence land.
