GSM telcos see marginal rise in subscriber base

Subscriber base stood at 67.11 crore at the end of June this year

The country’s GSM subscriber base has marginally increased to 67.26 crore, an addition of just 14.9 lakh new users, at the end of July 2013, according to data published by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) today.

Aircel added most customers during the month followed by Bharti Airtel, Uninor, Videocon and Idea Cellular. Aircel added 7.55 lakh new subscribers, while market leader Bharti Airtel added 4.76 lakh users to take its base to 19.13 crore at the end of July 2013.
 
Bharti Airtel is still the market leader with a 28.45% share.
 
 
During the month, Uninor added 4.63 lakh users, Videocon’s subscriber base increased by 3.53 lakh and Idea Cellular got 3 lakh fresh users. Vodafone, however, lost 6.10 lakh users from its network which led its base shrinking to 15.44 crore. The company now has a market share of 22.96%. State-run MTNL lost 2.44 lakh subscribers in July.
