State runoil and gas major, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation is aiming to tap renewable sources of energy by foraying into wind energy in a big way. The company is planning to set up a 200 MW wind farm project for an estimated investment of Rs 1000-1200 crore. The company has invited bids from wind energy generators for the project.
In September this year, the premier oil and gas company o f India, ONGC forayed into wind energy segment by formally commissioning its 50 MW wind farm on the coast of Jhakhau in Gujarat.
The project is estimated to cost over Rs 300 crore.
An official spokesperson of GSPC told Business Standard that the company is exploring to foray into wind energy and will take a final call depending on the bids received. The company meanwhile has also been exploring to foray into solar energy however nothing has been finalised so far, sources in the company said. He said that the company will be making the necessary announcements at Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January next year.
The state government is aiming to emphasize more on renewable sources of energy and for this the nodal agency Gujarat Energy Development Agency has started finalizing companies who are aiming to invest in this sector, sources said.
While Tata Power has earlier this year evinced interest to the state government for setting up 700-800 MW of wind farm projects in Kutch for an estimated investment of Rs 2,800-3,200 crore, Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group has also been mulling for a 200 MW wind project in Gujarat, sources familiar with the development said.
Meanwhile the work at ADAG’s upcoming greenfield project for manufacturing wind energy components is at full swing at Union Territory region of Silvassa. The newly formed subsidiary Global Wind Energy has lined up Rs 1,000 crore investment for the unit that will come up in 50 acres of land in Kherdi.
