Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd (TCGL), which was set up by the state government in 1978 to identify and promote tourism-related activities and projects, has now decided to privatise some of the commercial properties owned by it.

While TCGL's tourism property at Chorwad taluka in Junagadh district is up for sale, it is interested in transferring its sea face land of 20,230 square metre at Kuda, Bhavnagar to private parties interested in developing it as a tourism unit under a 30-year lease agreement.

The lessee shall have to develop the tourist facilities within two years of entering into contract with TCGL. The Chorwad property is situated on a 43,036 square metre of land on the beach and is already in operation currently.

TCGL wants the purchaser to further develop the property as a tourist accommodation project within two years so that it can accommodate 200 tourists at a time.

TCGL has also shown interest in entering into a 30-year lease agreement for development of a tourism complex at its property located on the beach at Tithal taluka of Valsad district.

To be called Holiday Home, this tourism complex would have to be developed on a 30,351 square metre of land at the beach as per the project report already prepared by the corporation.

Revealing that TCGL has resorted to this step as it has suffered losses due to a number of organisational constraints, knowledgeable sources said, "This is a step in the right direction and was long overdue. It will not only enable the corporation to minimise its losses but also help in attracting more tourists and also provide them with better services."
