After the successful completion of the first round of power purchase through competitive bidding in January 2007, GUVNL had invited proposals from power generators, traders and companies in August 2007 to supply 2,000 Mw to the state-run company on a long-term basis through competitive bidding. Over 26 companies evinced interest. However, the bidding process got delayed due to Assembly elections.

GUVNL recently selected 19 companies. "These companies have been given 150 days to submit their final proposals," said GUVNL sources, adding, the final proposals would contain all the details including the quantity of power to be supplied, rates, generation capacity and fuel used by these companies. The final bids would be opened in October, sources said.

It may be recalled that in the first round of 3,200 Mw of power purchase, 14 companies participated in the final stage of bidding, which was completed in January 2007.
