Hafed to augment warehousing capacity

Warehousing capacity is to be increased to 9.51 lakh metric tonnes by March 2013

The Haryana State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (Hafed) is to set up a flour mill cat the cost of Rs 2 crore in Taroari in Karnal district.

The warehousing capacity would also be increased up to 9.51 lakh metric tonnes (lmt) by March 2013.

While stating this in Chandigarh, Cooperation Minister Satpal Sangwan said that Hafed has been appointed as the nodal agency by the state government to create food grain storage space of 39 lmt under the Private Entrepreneur Guarantee Scheme. It has constructed storage capacity of 5lmt in the state so far. He said that Hafed has also constructed a multipurpose godown with a capacity of 30,000 tonnes at a cost of Rs 20 crore in Gurgaon.

 

The minister said that Hafed has also introduced contract farming to ensure remunerative prices to wheat, barley and basmati rice growers. Under the scheme, remunerative prices have been provided to to farmers engaged in cultivation of these crops. Hafed has also started new a purchasing system for mustard during the 2011 rabi season with assistance from the National Spot Exchange Limited, under which farmers could directly sell their mustard crop at the Hafed oil mills in Rewari and Narnaul, where high prices were provided to farmers by Hafed than at mandis.
