Noted social activist Anna Hazare has decided to launch a 'jail bharo' agitation against the "illegal decision of the state government to condone irregularities" in the Lavasa lake city project coming up near Pune.

"The state government's decision to regularise irregularities in Lavasa project is akin to daylight robbery of tribals whose lands have been illegally acquired for the project," Hazare said.

"As per law, land of tribals cannot be transferred. But in case of Lavasa, poor people have been forced to bear the cost of providing luxury for the super rich," he said.

Hazare's decision follows Maharashtra revenue minister Narayan Rane's recent announcement that there was nothing fishy in the clearance of Lavasa Lake city project, which has been hit by allegations of irregularities in land acquisition.

Rane had earlier said that the state government has decided to compound irregularities in land acquisition for the controversial project.

"The decision was taken by me keeping in view factors like the Rs 48,000 crore investment proposed and employment opportunities for over 96,000 people in the project," he had said.

Meanwhile, Governor of Maharashtra K Sankaranarayanan will visit Hazare's village in Parner tehsil of Ahmednagar district tomorrow.

The Governor will visit Ralegan Siddhi on the invitation of Hazare, who met him in Raj Bhavan last month. He will inaugurate a watershed recharge project, visit the percolation tank at Pathardara watershed area and the Kohni watershed area.
