British Prime Minister Tony Blair made the announcement in India during the launch of the 2006 UK Trade and Investments India Business Awards in New Delhi today.

Shiv Nadar, founder chairman and CEO of HCL Technologies, was also present at the meeting.

According to a release issued by HCL Tech to the BSE today, the 600 additional jobs would take the staff strength in UK to almost 3,000 employees.

"We are committed to work with the government and the people of UK and take this relationship to new heights. While India is an integral part of the solution we offer our clients, far from taking jobs out of the UK, we are actually creating hundreds of new positions while investing in the UK economy," Shiv Nadar said.
