The state-run Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC), Ranchi, has made a breakthrough in manufacturing a CNC deep hole boring machine indigenously at its heavy machine tools plant (HMTP) for the ordinance factory at Kanpur for making cannon barrels.

The machine was recently cleared for dispatch after trial inspection by works manager ordinance factory, Kanpur, Kulveer Singh Yadav at a simple ceremony at the HMTP plant here. CMD, HEC R Misra congratulated the team of HMTP for this unique achievement and appreciated the efforts taken by HMTP.

The machine has been designed for a maximum bore diameter of 350 mm upto a maximum bore length of 12000 mm. The machine’s bed has a length of 30 meters and has a special feature of bottle boring facility.

With the induction of this machine, ordinance factory, Kanpur, will also get such machine for the first time with bottle boring facility.

Also in the history of HMTP, a machine worth Rs 19 crore is being dispatched for the first time by this plant.

The toolings of the machine have been imported from BTA Tech. Dr Greuner & GmbH, Germany. The engineers from Dr. Greuner, Germany were in HEC from January 23 to February 4 for proving out of their tools.

They were very happy with the rigidity and quality of the machine and expressed that such rigid machines are very rarely built in other parts of the world.
