Henkel Adhesive Technologies India is betting big on the Rs 400-crore Indian salon (haircare) industry with its launch of haircare brand ‘Indola’.

The company plans to introduce five products under the brand Indola Professional, which was acquired by it in 2004. These will be in three categories — hair colour, hair care (shampoos and conditioners) and form (hair rebonding).

“We aim to stock the products across 5,000 salons in metros and class A cities in India. We will focus more on distribution and educating the potential customers. The salon industry is majorly driven by training and education of hair dressers,” said Ravi Bhatnagar, head, sales & marketing, Indola India. The company on Wednesday launched its product here.

It, at present, imports its products from China, Thailand and Germany.

“The business growth prospects are immense in the next few years as the products cater to mass market,” he added.

Indian salon industry is dominated by global players like L’Oreal with its three brands — Kerastase (luxury), L’Oreal Professional (premium) and Matrix (mass), Procter & Gamble’s Wella, as well as local players like CavinKare’s Raaga Professional.
